Young moved from North Carolina to Los Angeles, landing roles as Cathy Metsker and Rachel in JJ Abrams Mission Impossible: 3 with Tom Cruise and Keri Russel. She has also produced several independent films including The Freebie with Dax Shepard and Joshua Leonard and A Country Remedy which features Joshua Leonard. Both were made on location in North Carolina. When she moved to LA Young also began a long & varied career on television appearing until now on more than 40 shows including Grey s Anatomy Private Practice 2 1/2 Men The West Wing ER Frasier Boston Legal Cold Case NCIS and Law & Order. Young can currently be present in her award-winning character as The First Lady Mellie Grant in ABC popular series Scandal as well as in the forthcoming Zoe Cassavetes film Day out of Days. Young is working on a contemporary adult album which will feature covers of Fleetwood Mac Tom Waits Ryan Adams. In May of 2015, Young released her first single Far Away So Close on iTunes. Megan Griffiths directed her in the 2016 crime thriller The Night Stalker about serial murderer Richard Ramirez. The film featured her as a support role of Bernard and Huey, an independent film written and directed by David Koechner and Jim Rash. In the year 2018, she was a part in Disney's Live Action adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time alongside Oprah Winfrey Reese Witherspoon Mindy Kaling.
